“I still can’t believe it happened. We were saying earlier, like the adrenaline that night it was amazing,” explained Kay.
Abraham said the community support means so much to her and coming home after the competition has been special.
“Everyone that has just kind of followed like our journeys along the way has just been incredible,” said Abraham.

A singer/songwriter from Brenham will be taking part in a new TV show entitled, “The Sound of Small Town America.”
Michelle Kay grew up in Brenham and said she developed a passion for singing at the age of four years old. She has been performing solo since turning 16."
With a soulful sound well beyond her age, Kay has shared much success planting her boots in the Central Texas music scene, and is this week’s Free Music Friday. Kay said music has always been in her life since she was young.
“My dad used to have a cover band in the Houston area, so growing up like we would always go to shows. And then as I got older, I loved music and I always wanted to play. So I started playing little places here and there,” she said.
"Michelle Kay, a singer/songwriter from Brenham, will be competing in the finals of a new singing competition called The Sound of Small Town America.
The competition was held across small towns across America, including Navasota, which is where Kay was discovered.
Kay will be heading to Nashville, performing at the Grand Ole Opry for the finale in May."

Texas country artist Michelle Kay is a small town girl with a big time voice. With a soulful sound well beyond her age , Michelle has shared much success planting her ‘brown boots’ in the Central Texas music scene. With the privilege to play at a multitude of different venues, Michelle is paving her own road to the top. Not only does she masterfully control the stage with her boisterous voice and out-going personality, Michelle Kay has a knack for writing songs of her own. To date, Michelle Kay has recorded two original soundtracks that will be streaming on platforms everywhere in early 2023. The dynamic duo of her new singles ‘Bye’ & ‘Gypsy Girl’ are primed & ready to send Michelle Kay Music to new heights.
Michelle grew up in Brenham, TX, from the time she was a toddler, her life was surrounded by music. Reigning from a family known for their musical abilities, Michelle's gift was yet another apple picked from the family tree. Between her God-given voice & dedication to learning acoustic guitar, Michelle began performing solo at the impressive age of 16.
Wanting to keep her roots planted close to home, Michelle had her eyes set 40 miles north for Texas A&M University. The Michelle Kay footprint had now expanded to College Station , & word in Aggieland spread fast about this small town girls talent. The Michelle Kay era was gaining traction all the while she balanced a full-time class load. Following graduation in 2018, Michelle felt called to remain in town & inspire the next generation as a teacher. Balancing a teaching career while traveling for shows is a daunting task but her burning passion for music was an ember that would remain lit regardless of the challenges.
A talent as tremendous as hers garners attention on every note. Michelle's musical influences have all played a part in her musical evolution; from Miranda Lambert to Shania Twain, Stevie Nicks to Linda Rondstadt, & Sean McConnell, their spirits live within her songs.
In 2021, Michelle packed up her brown boots & headed north on I-35 with her fiancé. New adventures awaited this small town girl in Fort Worth. Since the move, Michelle has become a newlywed with a reimagined dream. This dream that started as an ember has spread into a wildfire that cannot be doused. In the fall of 2022 Michelle Kay, in conjunction with Greg White of SG Studios, recorded her first two original soundtracks. Stay tuned as this is the beginning of a new era for Michelle Kay Music.
